Mission Statement

The New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission was established in 2007 to protect and to celebrate New Brunswick’s heritage and to educate the public about the history of the province.

The Commission seeks to enhance greater pride and understanding of New Brunswick’s diverse cultural heritage; to enhance the experience of visitors to the Capital Region; and to develop for New Brunswick students, educational materials that promote heritage and cultural awareness.

The New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission holds close these ideals and responsibilities:

  • To reflect the distinct characteristics of New Brunswick communities for residents and visitors;
  • To build on the concept of the capital region as a cultural and historical microcosm of the province;
  • To undertake educational programs to emphasize our history and heritage, thus instilling a sense of pride in the province and an appreciation of our achievements, beginning with the children of the province;
  • To instil a feeling of pride in the importance of the capital region and its place in the life and history of New Brunswick;
  • To make the capital region representative of all aspects of the province;
  • To promote the capital region as a gateway to New Brunswick’s diversity;
  • To encourage projects that reflect the culture and history of New Brunswick, and projects that celebrate diversity and reflect the realities of the past as well as the potential of the future;
  • To promote the preservation of our federal and provincial historical and heritage sites within the capital region as one of the best ways to reflect pride in who we are;
  • To encourage the beautification of the Capital Region;
  • To maximize the economic benefits of development activities through partnerships, collaboration and prioritization, and to achieve efficiencies and effectiveness through this coordination.
