New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission

The New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission celebrates pride in the province, connects New Brunswickers to the capital and connects the capital to New Brunswickers.

The structure of the Capital Commission envolved from a 2003 study, which developed its mission and vision (Our Mission) and suggested projects, which you can see on this Web site that would enable the Capital Commission to fulfill the broad strokes of its vision.

On 1 March 2007, the New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission was establised as a not-for-profit organization.  The following year, the Capital Commission established a foundation to enable it to raise funds.  Like many other organizations, the Capital Commission received a start up grant from the proinvical governament, which is used to fund its projects and to leverage other monies form the federal government, non-governmental agencies, and from public and private partnerships.

The Honourable Kelly Lamrock is the provincial minister responsible for the Capital Commission and Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick is the honorary chair.  The board of directors is composed of fifteen members (Our Organization) who represent the diversity of New Brunswick.

The Capital Commission is a non-partisan, arm's-length organization which acts independently of the provincial government but adheres to provincial rules and regulations as it develops its projects.

Map of DistrictThe capital region is composed of nine electoral districts with its centre, the Legislative Assembly, which is a second home to all New Brunswickers. It is part of the fabric of the province, drawing from the culture, ethnic, and historical diversity of New Brunswick. The capital reflects our identity. It reflects our diversity through the many people born here or in other lands, who live and work together to make this province.

New Brunswick's capital region is a special place filled with memorable experiences. It is where we learn about New Brunswick and New Brunswickers, and feel pride in who we are. As New Brunswickers, we encounter the capital experience with pride and a sense of belonging.

New Brunswick's capital core area celebrates who we are: our values, our accomplishments, our diversity, and our ties to the rest of the province. It presents the many faces of the New Brunswick mosaic, nourishes our connection to the land, and provides us with an authentic experience of our provincial heritage.

The New Brunswick Provincial Capital Commission's vision statement commits the Commission to serve all of the people of the province and to create a level of understanding across the province. In facilitating and celebrating our pride, we want to ensure that New Brunswickers are aware of the cultural and historical differences and the different regions of the province: our diversity.

We invite many voices to join in conversations, to come together for celebrations, ceremonies, and provincial and national events.  We invite everyone to honour our past, to look to a shared future, and to strengthen ourselves collectively as New Brunswickers.
